Buffalo soldiers became a generic term for African-American soldiers, although today it is reserved for those units that trace direct lineage from the 9th and 10th Cavalry units of the 1860`s. After the Battle of the Bulge over 4500 African Amercian troops volunteered to form to provision companies in the 6th Army Group and also serve in the 12th Army Group.
